Dendrobium trilamellatum

Dendrobium trilamellatum was described by JJ Smith 1908.

The flowers are fragrant, and appear from spike which can be up to 40cm long. This species enjoy a lot of air movement around it, and can tolerate semi-shade position to full sun.

Spatulata Orchids

Even though I started by collecting any kinds orchids, then I moved to the species orchids. They have more beauty and magical feeling when I look at them. Coelogyne, Oncydium, Dendrobium, and Vanda. All of them all together. Then I learned that different species has different requirements. Specific amount of lights, specific amounts of water, specific humidity, etc.

Then my husband asked me to choose my favourite Genus. First I choose Vanda. However, there are not so many Vanda in Indonesia. Then I added Dendrobium to my list. There are plenty of Dendrobiums in Indonesia, and they are more tolerant to the kind of weather condition in Jakarta. By the way, I live in Jakarta, Indonesia. So you know how hot and humid it is.

Anyway, of all the section in Dendrobiums, I am mesmerized by Spatulata Orchids. You will see how they are sort of interesting.

Their distribution is mostly around Asia and Pacific, from the Philippines, Eastern part of Indonesia, New Guinea, some parts of Australia, and the islands in the west Pacific. Also they have erect petals which may have varying degrees of twisting, which is easy to recognize.

I will show you some of the Spatulata Orchids on my collection. But be patient, OK, not all of them have presentable pictures... so I will post some now, and some later. Enjoy...

My Orchids, My passion

A few years ago, I was introduced to Orchids by my husband. He was stationed in Kalimantan, and he told me that there is a beautiful yet rare orchids called The Black Orchids. Then we tried to find them here in Jakarta. He found the orchid in Kalimantan when he returned there. He bought a few plants and sent them to me by post.

After a few months of caring, the flower bloomed, and I was mesmerized by the beauty of The Black Orchids. Later we found out the name to be Coelogyne pandurata. That’s the start, then we started collecting orchids from just about anywhere we went.

We met all the important and knowledgeable persons in the Orchids world in Indonesia. We have met Mr Ayub Pranata, Mr Syahrizal Siregar, Mr Frankie Handoyo, Mr Andi Wijaya, Mr Rama, Mr Cuncun Wijaya, and many more.

Now I am sharing this passion with all of you out there who share the same passion. Please enjoy it.

Do write and I will appreciate it.
