Spatulata Orchids

Even though I started by collecting any kinds orchids, then I moved to the species orchids. They have more beauty and magical feeling when I look at them. Coelogyne, Oncydium, Dendrobium, and Vanda. All of them all together. Then I learned that different species has different requirements. Specific amount of lights, specific amounts of water, specific humidity, etc.


Then my husband asked me to choose my favourite Genus. First I choose Vanda. However, there are not so many Vanda in Indonesia. Then I added Dendrobium to my list. There are plenty of Dendrobiums in Indonesia, and they are more tolerant to the kind of weather condition in Jakarta. By the way, I live in Jakarta, Indonesia. So you know how hot and humid it is.

Anyway, of all the section in Dendrobiums, I am mesmerized by Spatulata Orchids. You will see how they are sort of interesting.

Their distribution is mostly around Asia and Pacific, from the Philippines, Eastern part of Indonesia, New Guinea, some parts of Australia, and the islands in the west Pacific. Also they have erect petals which may have varying degrees of twisting, which is easy to recognize.

I will show you some of the Spatulata Orchids on my collection. But be patient, OK, not all of them have presentable pictures... so I will post some now, and some later. Enjoy...
